Should CBD Be Part of My Patients’ Treatment?

Dick Benson

Hemp is a species of the cannabis plant, which falls under the classification of the Cannabaceae family. Hemp has been cultivated since ancient times, dating as far back as 8 000 BCE, where it was found in various products, including pottery. Hemp seed was found as a food source in China in 4 000 BCE and as recently as the 1600s CE, where Jamestown settlers grew the hemp plant for its unusually strong fiber, using it to make rope, sails, and clothing.1 However, times have changed, and hemp has been illegal to grow in the United States for decades.
